PAUL VALDMANIS STANDING FOR UKIP IN BY-ELECTION
Wednesday, 23rd June 2010
Paul Valdmanis, UKIP Bloxwich West by-election candidate
Due to the sudden death of the long standing Bloxwich West Councillor, Melvin Pitt who sadly died on election day at the age of 58, a by-election has been called to find a new councillor for the ward.
At a recent branch meeting the Walsall UKIP group selected Paul Valdmanis as their candidate for this by-election. Paul, who is a resident in the Walsall borough, has worked in the catering business for many years overseeing standards in restaurants and hotels around the West Midlands.
He is looking forward to election day and is campaigning in the ward, with help from other UKIP members. He said: “UKIP has made great strides in and around Walsall over the last few years, especially in the recent General Election with more and more people voting for us, I am hoping to build on that vote.”
Election day is Thursday 15th July, the polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm. Branch chairman, Derek Bennett, commented: “I am extremely proud of our Walsall UKIP team, we have all worked hard over the years and we are growing in strength and influence, we put up candidates in 12 wards in the recent MBC elections and gained a respectable vote, I consider that a lot of people in Bloxwich West will see UKIP as a real alternative to the other three political parties which have, collectively, failed this country.”
There are five political parties contesting the vacant seat, as well as UKIP the other political parties involved are: the Conservative Party which will be aiming to hold on to the ward, Labour, Liberal Democrat and the Greens.
